NotesA draft human risk assessment released by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) concludes that glyphosate a widely used though controversial herbicide is not likely to be carcinogenic to humans. The agency added that no other meaningful risk to human health was found when the product is used according to label instructions. EPA has called for public comments on its assessment. The agencys final decision, which is scheduled for 2019, will outline any proposed risk mitigation measures, should these be deemed necessary. Meanwhile, in the state of California, products that may contain glyphosate are required to carry warning labels stating the chemical is known to the state to cause cancer a decision that has been challenged by US farm groups and producers of the chemical.
