DescriptionEntered into force on 1 February 2019, the EU and Japan's Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) will progressively eliminate Japanese custom duties on hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano, Gouda and Cheddar, currently taxed at nearly 30 percent. The EPA will also establish a duty-free quota for some cheese varieties such as Mozzarella, and will recognize and protect European geographical indications on certain dairy products.
