DescriptionTemporarily lowered the import tariff for sunflower-seed oil and reduced the reference price on which tariffs are applied, in a bid to facilitate imports and thus prevent increases in consumer prices of edible oil.
NotesTURKEY import policy: In a bid to facilitate imports and thus prevent increases in consumer prices of edible oil, the Government temporarily lowered the import tariff for sunflowerseed oil from 36 percent to 30 percent. At the same time, the reference price on which tariffs are applied would be reduced from USD 1 000 to USD 800 per tonne. The measures will remain in place from 1 February to 30 June 2020. Reportedly, the need to secure import flows arose after the Eurasian Economic Union (which includes the Russian Federation, i.e. Turkeys principal supplier of sunflowerseed) decided to temporarily ban sunflowerseed exports on the backdrop of the COVID-19 emergency (see above).
