NotesUNITED STATES OF AMERICA – pesticide regulation: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cleared the use of the herbicide isoxaflutole on genetically modified soybeans, allegedly providing soy farmers with a new tool to control weeds that have become resistant to many other herbicides. Isoxaflutole has been classified as a restricted-use pesticide, meaning that users must receive special training in order to use it. Furthermore, its use will only be allowed in certain parts of the country. The registration is limited to five years, during with time EPA would evaluate any potential weed resistance that may develop.
