DescriptionThe Cabinet extended on 29 November 2023 the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) free food grains scheme (which began in 2020) for five years, effective from January 1 2024 to strengthen food and nutrition security. Under the scheme, 5 kilogrammes of food grain (including rice, wheat and coarse grains) per month will be provided to 813.5 million beneficiaries.
