DescriptionCancelled a tender held on 6 June 2024 that aimed to procure 300 000 tonnes of imported rice. The June tender was the first to be issued by the Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (CONAB) under a 1.0 million tonne import quota authorized in May 2024. Successive official statements indicated that authorities would monitor rice prices and that, should these normalize, no further import tender would be deemed necessary. In addition, it would seek to bolster rice production in non-southern regions of Brazil.
