FAO GLOBEFISH Celebrates 40 years of impact on global fisheries and aquaculture trade

09/09/2024

For the past four decades, FAO GLOBEFISH has been a cornerstone of global fisheries and aquaculture market analysis. Since its inception in 1984, the project has provided key insights into market analysis and dynamics through publications like the GLOBEFISH Highlights, European Price Report, GLOBEFISH Market Profiles, and Chinese Fish Price Report. The FAO GLOBEFISH Price Dashboard, a user-friendly platform, provides regularly updated data to track fisheries and aquaculture prices across Europe.

The 40th anniversary of FAO GLOBEFISH will be celebrated at FAO headquarters, on 18 and 19 September, 10 a.m. and will mark four decades of contributions to global fisheries and aquaculture trade and market analysis.

The event will highlight the enduring relevance and impact of FAO GLOBEFISH’s work over the past forty years. It will also provide a platform to explore future trends in the industry, underscore the critical role of accurate and timely information in the sector, and emphasize the importance of collaboration for sustainable resource management.

The event will be held only in English.

About FAO GLOBEFISH

FAO GLOBEFISH is a multi-donor funded project within FAO's Fisheries and Aquaculture Division, dedicated to providing up-to-date trade and market information on fisheries and aquaculture products.

As global fish trade has grown significantly — from USD 16 billion in 1984 to a record high of USD 192 billion in 2022, with projections to surpass USD 200 billion by 2024 — FAO GLOBEFISH has played a critical role in increasing awareness on international market requirements, streamlining policies and procedures, exploring key challenges in the postharvest and trade sector and supporting developing countries and regions to enhance their capacities, access new markets and operate more effectively and smoothly in increasingly complex and globalized value chains. Through capacity-building activities, FAO GLOBEFISH helps countries enhance their export competitiveness, reduce market inefficiencies and align with international market standards, contributing to the sustainable growth of fisheries exports.
