FAO Representative meets the Governor of Khuvsgul aimag

Vinod Ahuja, FAOR in Mongolia visited Khuvsgul aimag during 02-05 March 2019.

The FAOR was invited to participate in the Ice festival “Blue pearl 2019” at the lake Khuvsgul. This is the 19th event organized by the aimag Governor office with the aim to develop winter tourism, enhance awareness for protecting the Khuvsgul lake and eco system in the area. FAO Mongolia provided support for the Festival through the project “Mainstreaming biodiversity conservation, SFM and carbon sink enhancement into Mongolia`s productive forest landscapes”. 

The FAOR took this opportunity to visit “Khuvsgul Titanik” Co.,Ltd, food processing company that has two main production lines: dairy and flour products. Its dairy processing unit has been supported by the project “Support to employment creation in Mongolia (SECiM)”. Currently, the company supplies 35% of dairy products to the local market and the company looks forward to increase its production capacity.

The FAOR and the two project teams also held an official meeting with Mr. L.Ganbold, Governor of Khuvsgul aimag and has broad ranging discussions. 

Mr. Ganbold expressed his gratitude to FAO for supporting aimag development through cooperation for two projects.

The Governor introduced three pillars for Aimag development as tourism with protected environment, eco production and agriculture with appropriate combination of livestock and crop production. He highlighted that FAO projects’ goals and activities are fully aligned with the aimag priorities hence, look forward to see tangible achievements by supporting development of local branding and value added products and impacts on improving people’s livelihoods

The governor invited the FAOR to an “Open door” event to be held in September 2019 for introducing achievements of projects and programmes supported by development partners and donors.
