UN Mongolia plants tree

UN agencies present in Mongolia along with media representations, partners including Delegation of the European Union to Mongolia, MOFA, MOFALI, Russian Embassy, Sparkassenstiftung Mongolia, and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development planted 200 trees in National Park of Mongolia on the occassion of UN Day 2019 in Mongolia. H.E. Mr. Damdin Tsogtbaatar, The Minister of Foreign Affairs; H.E. Mr. Chultem Ulaan, The Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry and H.E. Mr. Namsrai Tserenbat, The Minister of Environment and Tourism have supported the initiative and participated in the tree planting in UN Garden. 

The activitiy was led by FAO in the framework of Mainstreaming biodiversity conservation, SFM and carbon sink enhancement into Mongolia`s productive forest landscapes (FSP) GCP /MON/008/GFF project. Total of 200 seedlings were planted, including 100 ulmus, 20 spruce, 80 pines were planted. In order to support the local project stakeholders, 80 seedlings were brought from Khyalganat Inter soum Forestry Unit (ISFU) in Bulgan province. 

Mr. Tapan Mishra, newly appointed UNRC in Mongolia highlighted that this is a small but tangible UN contribution to greening the urban areas where the pollution is the highest.

Mr. Vinod Ahuja, FAOR in Mongolia along with all the agencies have promised to take follow-up actions in keeping the UN Garden growing and sustainable.
