With the purpose of avoiding misunderstandings and inconsistent interpretations, FAO has published Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Terms in Mongolian.

“The beginning of wisdom is the definition of terms.” Although there is no clear right or wrong meaning of a word, there are variations on scientific opinion. When words are used by different groups to represent different concepts, statements and documents can become ambiguous or misleading to the audience. This can lead to misunderstandings, inconsistency, and even, ideas that conflict with their intended meaning. Therefore, there was a need for technical definitions to create common understanding and interpretation.

To address this challenge, FAO has developed a clear and transparent lexicon of commonly used words in AMR in multiple languages aligning technical internal communications and providing clarity to external audiences going forward. 

As of now, the terms are available in six UN languages and languages where the “Action to support implementation of Codex AMR Texts (ACT)” project is taking place: Mongolian, Khmer, Korean, and Nepali. It will be available in Punjabi and Urdu soon.
