FAO, WHO, MOFALI and other key stakeholders kick start the project on strengthening food control systems in Mongolia

Mongolia needs to put in place more integrated and comprehensive food laws and improve surveillance, monitoring and enforcement. The system also need to better reflect risk-based approaches, be consistent with modern regulations and standards. This requires strengthening institutional, technical, operational and financial capacity for managing food safety along the food chain.

An inception meeting was held on April 30, 2019 for the tripartite cooperation project of the Government of Mongolia, FAO and WHO named “Support in developing efficient food control management systems”. Main national counterparts are the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MOFALI), The Office of the National Security Council (NSC) and The General Agency for Specialized Inspection (GASI). The project aims to strengthen food systems in Mongolia to ensure safe and nutritious food for the population.
