The Map of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities living in Mountain Areas provides geospatial information on indigenous and local communities living in mountain areas at global scale. Data is presented in the form of an interactive map. The dataset connected to the map is downloadable as an Excel or a CSV file directly from the attribute table in the interactive map.
As further information is available for different indigenous and local communities, different sets of data will be showcased in the popups and reports, depending on the availability.
Overall, information has been collected on the following topics:
Missing information is labelled with a N/A (Not Available).
You can find all definitions used for these categories here.
If you would like to have more information about the interactive map, please look at the metadata of the interactive map.
All data has been collected through desktop research and is therefore publicly available. Find all sources used here.
As the database is not complete, it will be updated with more information when available. Updates will be carried out through two main sources: desktop research and data providers. We are currently developing a Data Providers list which will include organizations, research institutes, experts and governments that will decide to cooperate with the Mountain Partnership Secretariat team on this project. In the latter case, the source of the information will be displayed and will be fully responsible for the accuracy of the data provided.
Users are encouraged to report any errors, omissions or inconsistencies to the Mountain Partnership Secretariat and the appropriate data provider.
