CSW68 side event: Advocating for mountain women and girls' education globally through student engaged learning

Empowering youth is critical to enhance mountain community prospects and innovation. This side event held at the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68) aims to empower students and mountain youth leaders as advocates for their communities with a focus on women and girls.

Students from mountain countries will discuss the inclusive co-curricular student-engaged learning initiative. This initiative encourages collaboration to address real-world issues and allows students to learn how to implement UN initiatives.

Ritikaa Gupta of the Mountain Youth Hub (MYH), a youth initiative supported by the Mountain Partnership, will provide background on the MYH, provide insights on her mountain region, and emphasize the importance of sustainable mountain development. She will also share a video with further insights from other members of the MYH.

The MYH is a dynamic platform dedicated to empowering and mobilizing youth across mountainous regions worldwide. The platform plays a pivotal role in advancing the UN's Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions 2023–2027.

This event is organized by the Group of Friends of Mountainous Countries and Utah Valley University together with the Permanent Kyrgyzstan Mission to the United Nations.

The event will be held on 14 March 2024 at 10.00–11.15 EDT in Conference Room 1.

The CSW is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. It is a functional commission of the Economic and Social Council and is instrumental in promoting women's rights. The priority theme of 2024 is "Accelerate the achievement of gender equality by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective".
