From: 29.10.2016 to: 06.11.2016Every autumn for nine days, audiences come together from around the world to experience mountain adventures, cultures and environments portrayed in films, books and photos at the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival. This year, the festival is presented by National Geographic and The North Face. Several key programmes and competitions compose the festival, including the Banff Mountain Film Competition and the Banff Mountain Book Competition: Banff Mountain Film Competition The largest mountain film festival in the world, Banff offers filmmakers the chance to meet others like them to exchange ideas and collaborate and to connect with leaders in the outdoor adventure world, including athletes, adventurers, gear manufacturers and media. Over $40 000 (Canadian) in cash and prizes will be awarded at the 2016 festival. Awards are given for a number of categories of mountain film, including: exploration and adventure, mountain culture, mountain environment, climbing, mountain sports, mountain wildlife and natural history, creative excellence, ‘People's Choice’ and ‘Grand Prize’. Filmmakers have until 3 August 2016 to enter their film in the competition. Banff Mountain Book Competition Over $16 000 (Canadian) in cash is awarded annually with seven awards selected by an international jury of writers, adventurers and editors. The shortlist of category award winners eligible for the ‘Grand Prize’ is announced in October every year. In 2016, the Grand Prize will be announced on Thursday, 3 November at The Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival and category awards will be presented to winning authors. The 2016 Banff Mountain Book Competition is closed. A Summit of Excellence Award will also be announced at the 2016 Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival, along with the Mountain Idol Award, the Signature Image Competition Winner and the Mountain Photo Essay Competition Winner.
