Sustainable Summits Conference

Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, New Zealand
From: 07.08.2016 to: 11.08.2016

The 2016 Sustainable Summits Conference is organized and hosted by the New Zealand Alpine Club, celebrating 125 years of New Zealand mountaineering in 2016, in association with the New Zealand Department of Conservation and with the support of Ngāi Tahu, the Māori people of the southern islands of New Zealand.

The conference will address human impact in the mountains and practical solutions to sustaining mountain environments. Conference themes include natural hazards, environmental impacts, and social and cultural adaptations.

The programme features talks, workshops, panel discussions, poster presentations, field trips and social events, as well as international presenters from Alaska, Austria, France, Nepal and New Zealand.

The venue is the Hermitage Hotel at Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park village, with accommodation options for all budgets.
There is an optional final day field trip exploring the Hooker Valley or glacier skiing in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park.

The 2016 conference follows two successful conferences in the United States in 2010 and 2014
