Central Asia Climate Change Conference

The Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for Aral Sea Basin (CAMP4ASB) project was launched in 2016 to support the countries of Central Asia to enhance regionally coordinated access to improved climate change knowledge services as well as to increased investments and capacity building, that combined will address climate challenges across the region. Organized within the framework of the CAMP4ASB, the Central Asia Climate Change Conference 2018 is a continuation of the World Bank’s initiative on climate change knowledge and information exchange in Central Asia.

The Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia, a member of the Mountain Partnership, is one of the implementing agencies of the CAMP4ASB project and is therefore mandated to implement its regional project component, which, inter alia, envisages the organization of regular conferences on climate change and strengthening regional cooperation on climate change.

Objectives
The Central Asia Climate Change Conference 2018 aims at fostering regional dialogue, knowledge and information exchange on adaption to climate change, exploring opportunities for joint actions between international, regional and national stakeholders and build a common vision towards a climate-resilient future.

This Conference also aims at reaching the following three main objectives:

• Inform participants about the latest global climate change discussions and trends amid the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and the post-COP23 discussions, while focusing on the implications of these developments for Central Asia;
• Present good practices, lessons learned, research findings, innovative climate-resilient technology and climate finance opportunities that have proven to be sustainable and effective at regional and global scale; and
• Explore opportunities to strengthen synergies in the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda through multi-stakeholder regional partnerships to achieve the Global Climate Action Agenda.

As a result of this conference, a non-binding, forward-looking conference outcome document will be produced to serve as an instrument for national and international partners alike in their efforts to design and implement climate-related projects, and to jointly mobilize resources and/or to support any other measures that will further help with the implementation of the Paris Agreement and 2030 Agenda 2030 in the Central Asia region.

Target audience
The conference will bring together more than 150 representatives from governmental and non-governmental agencies, academia, development partners, multilateral development banks and civil society organizations that work in the area of climate change, in particular climate adaptation.
