UN Global Indigenous Youth Forum side event: "Mountain Youth Hub: Elevating Indigenous Youth voices for a better mountain future"

Within the framework of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions 2023-2027 and under the auspices of the Mountain Partnership Secretariat, the newly established Mountain Youth Hub presents a unique opportunity to elevate Indigenous Youth voices from mountain regions and expand the global reach of this youth-led initiative.

Drawing upon the invaluable knowledge and practices of Indigenous Peoples in mountains, this side event on 18 October 2023 from 1:00 - 2:10 pm CEST will focus on the crucial role of Indigenous mountain youth in advancing sustainable mountain development, biodiversity conservation and resilient food systems. It will also serve as a platform for Indigenous youth from mountain areas to share their insights, experiences and innovative solutions for addressing the climate change challenges faced by mountain communities.

Speakers will introduce the Mountain Youth Hub and explore its potential to empower Indigenous mountain youth through interactive discussions. The expected outcome is to integrate the ideas generated within the framework of the Mountain Youth Hub, leveraging it to strengthen the initiative's global network, raise awareness about the role of Indigenous Peoples and youth in sustainable mountain food systems, and enhance resilience in mountain regions.

Session aims:

• Highlight the importance of Indigenous Youth in sustainable mountain development, biodiversity conservation, and resilient food systems
• Share insights and experiences that showcase the lives and livelihoods of Indigenous Youth in mountain regions and the challenges they face
• Engage participants for an interactive session to identify key challenges and goals for Indigenous youth in mountains and how it can be applied in the Mountain Youth Hub
• Discuss how the Mountain Youth Hub can be a tool of empowerment for Indigenous youth in mountain regions focusing on knowledge, opportunities and challenges; share outcomes with the Mountain Youth Hub
