The Ninth Negros Island Organic Farmers’ Festival

Five members of the Mountain Partnership (MP) are holding the Ninth Negros Island Organic Farmers’ Festival the capital of the Negros Occidental province of The Philippines with the theme ‘One Negros, One Green Economy’.

The Governors of the Province of Negros Occidental and that of Oriental, respectively Alfredo Marañón Jr. and Roel Degamo, will lead the event together with  other organizations such as the Broad Initiatives for Negros Development (BIND), the regional Non-Timber Forest Products Exchange Programme, Philippine section (NTFP-EP Phl), and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN (FAO) in close coordination with the MP Secretariat. Other political, intergovernmental, non-governmental representatives and academics will take part in the event.

The island festival has the following objectives:

• to present various organic agriculture produce;

• to support the use of the organic industry as a means to strengthen the green economy of Negros and reduce the impact of climate change; and

• to open up for economic opportunities for the organic industry within the island
