Italian Society for Mountain Medicine XVII National Congress

The Italian Society for Mountain Medicine (SIMEN) will hold its national convention this year in the newly constructed convention centre on the slopes of Mont Blanc. Mont Blanc has historically represented a natural laboratory for the study of mountain medicine.

The goals of the congress include: develop guidelines (hygiene and prevention) for those individuals who visit mountains or live at high altitude; to develop and collaborate with mountain rescue services; to promote research on the effects of high altitude and hypoxia; to promote studies on the effects of mountain environments (high altitude, extreme temperatures, etc.) on persons with chronic illnesses so as to inform general practitioners; to study the health problems of indigenous mountain populations; and to disseminate information among members and the greater public.
