Mountain Arts Festival

Penrith, Cumbria, England
From: 06.11.2015 to: 08.11.2015

Community Action Nepal in association with the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) NW Region host the Mountain Arts Festival on 6-8 November 2015 at the Rheged Centre in Penrith, Cumbria. It will be a weekend celebrating the importance of mountains and mountain peoples. The many ways in which mountains are viewed will be presented through the work of painters, walking artists, sculptors, writers, poets, musicians, dancers, photographers, film makers, jugglers, acrobats and other artists. Events will include presentations, discussions, an exhibition, creative writing and water colour painting workshops, and a musical performance on Saturday evening featuring Striding Edge Ceilidh Band.

Throughout the weekend, Rheged will host a Mountain Bazaar, with a chance to buy books, photographic prints, and Nepalese products. There will also be demonstrations by Mongolian throat singers, acrobats and jugglers and Herdwick wool weaving demonstrations.

As part of the festival, on Sunday 8 November, the RGS NW Region are hosting a debate chaired by Lord Inglewood, President of the Uplands Alliance, accompanied by a panel, on the future of Britain’s hills and uplands. The debate will cover key issues on upland farming and its future.

Community Action Nepal is a UK-based charity whose mission is to help the mountain communities of Nepal, in particular, following the 25 April earthquake.
