Enabling resilient and sustainable food systems in the Hindu Kush Himalaya International Conference

Kathmandu, Nepal
From: 06.12.2023 to: 08.12.2023

The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), in collaboration with the Government of Nepal and the Green Resilient Agricultural Productive Ecosystems (GRAPE) project, will bring together stakeholders from the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) countries. Researchers, experts, practitioners, academics and policymakers will explore best practices, solutions, approaches and policies on food systems and develop knowledge to enable collective action for sustainable food systems.

The HKH region suffers from high levels of food insecurity and malnutrition and local food systems are facing challenges with climate change, agrobiodiversity loss and outmigration. Climate change is impacting agricultural food systems through changes in temperature, varied water availability, increased pests and more frequent and severe hazards. Given these challenges, there is an urgent need to implement nature-based approaches and solutions to improve the sustainability of food systems in the HKH.

The ICIMOD conference will be held in person on 6–8 December 2023 in Kathmandu, Nepal. There will be panels and thematic sessions, and the last day includes an optional half-day exposure visit to the Living Lab at Godawari.
