UNFCCC COP 28 - Taking Action for Humanity and the Planet

Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Online
From: 07.12.2023 to: 08.12.2023

Climate change presents a threat to human health. It affects the physical environment and ecosystems communities depend on for their health, livelihoods, survival and well-being. Climate-sensitive health risks are disproportionately felt by the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. The Health in All Policies approach can contribute to improved governance and communication for climate action and planetary health at a global, national and local level across sectors.

Recognizing the importance of human and planetary health, Mountain Partnership member the Zero Water Day Partnership (ZWDP) is hosting two events at COP 28 on 7 and 8 December.

On 7 December, 12 schools from 9 countries will present their projects and experiences on how they implemented "Mountains: the water towers of our world – Children's call to action to protect mountain areas against the impacts of climate change" launched at COP 26. ZWDP will launch its initiative "Promoting Health and Planetary Health through Sports". Additionally, the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations will launch their statement on Sustainable Mountain Guiding. Rosalaura Romeo, Coordinator of the Mountain Partnership Secretariat, will provide opening remarks, and Livio Spadavecchia, Chair of the Mountain Partnership Steering Committee, will give closing remarks.

On 8 December at 13.00 CET, the World Health Organization and ZWDP will host "Integrating the Social Determinants of Health into Health Workforce Education and Training: What relevance for Planetary Health and Climate Action?" on Zoom (Passcode: R+Gxh$23).
