Event description:

Indigenous youth leaders from the Global Indigenous Youth Caucus (GIYC), along with representatives who attended the second session of the biennial UN Global Indigenous Youth Forum, will present the outcomes and calls to action deliberated at the Forum. In October 2023, 186 Indigenous youth from 54 countries, representing more than 100 Indigenous Peoples, convened at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) headquarters in Rome, Italy, for the first in-person gathering of the UN Global Indigenous Youth Forum. During the forum, discussions took place with Indigenous leaders, chefs, member state countries, UN agencies, foundations, NGOs, universities and research centres. From these discussions emerged calls to action and recommendations concerning the future of Indigenous Peoples’ food and knowledge systems within the context of intersecting food, social and ecological crises. The Coalition on Indigenous Peoples’ Food Systems, the Global-Hub on Indigenous Peoples’ Food Systems, and the Mountain Youth Hub of the Mountain Partnership, all participants in the UN Global Indigenous Youth Forum, will share their commitments to partnering and advancing the work with Indigenous youth globally. Indigenous youth are actively engaged in addressing challenges within their communities, and they seek support and collaboration from organizations, member states and UN agencies.

The event will feature interpretation in English and Spanish.

Organizers: FAO, GIYC, the Coalition on Indigenous Peoples’ Food Systems, and the Global-Hub on Indigenous Peoples’ Food Systems
