International Mountain Day

International Mountain Day (IMD) is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of mountains, to highlight the opportunities and constraints in mountain development and to build partnerships that will bring positive change to the world’s mountains and highlands.

This year, the theme for IMD is "Mountains - Key to a Sustainable Future". The celebration will focus on mountains’ contribution towards sustainable economic growth and drawing attention to their generally sustainable and low-emission production models. As discussions address the Post-2015 development agenda, this IMD is a chance to recall the need to include mountains in the sustainable development goals. Read more
