Second International Congress on Terraced Landscapes

Cusco, Peru
From: 14.05.2014 to: 22.05.2014

Peru will welcome researchers, farmers, activists, ‘terrace guardians’, decision-makers, technicians and rural development practitioners from various regions as well as international organization representatives for the Second International Congress on Terraced Landscapes. It seeks to reassess the importance of terraces/platforms in the world as a mechanism of adaptation to climate change contributing to rural life, food security, the environment and society in general. Peru has been chosen not only for its terraces (Andenes), but also for its efforts to rehabilitate agricultural terraces and introduce technologies according to regional specificities in recent decades. These efforts have been driven by the State, non-governmental development agencies and farmers themselves.

The themes will include:

(a) Management of soil and water, associated ecosystem services and climate change;
(b) Agrobiodiversity, sovereignty and food and nutrition security;
(c) Land management and social organization;
(d) Traditional and modern technologies and tools; and
(e) Governance, national and international policies and local cultures.
