The Ninth European Mountain Convention

Bilbao, Spain
From: 22.10.2014 to: 24.10.2014

The 9th European Mountain Convention, organized by Euromontana and the Basque government will discuss ‘Quality from the mountains: prosperity for people and territories’. Mountain stakeholders from across Europe will gather at the biennial event to explore new opportunities created for mountain products by new European policies, in particular, the Common Agricultural Policy.

This conference is part of the CAP communication campaign “A new CAP: Mountains of opportunities”and co-financed by the Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission. The project aims to inform mountain rural actors on the new CAP. By facilitating exchanges between rural mountain stakeholders, this information campaign will address how to make the most of the new CAP’s instruments.

This conference goals are to:

  • Explore how new European policies, and especially the CAP in the EU, can contribute to the structuring of supply chains and territories through brands and labels valorising specific territories and the mountain dimension.
  • Facilitate exchange of ideas between mountain LAGs.
  • Explore to what extent the family dimension of mountain farming can be valorised positively in product and services labelling and promotion strategies.
  • Prepare contributions for the world exhibition 2015 "Feeding the planet, energy for life": how can mountain quality productions respond to food security challenges of tomorrow?
