World Environment Day

Celebrated annually on 5 June, World Environment Day (WED) aims to encourage action and to raise global awareness on the most pressing environmental issues. This year, which was proclaimed by UN as the International Year of Small Island Developing States, WED will highlight the challenges and opportunities for the world's small island nations, especially those concerning climate change.

SIDS, like mountain ecosystems, are particularly vulnerable to a changing climate, owing to their unique environmental, social and economic characteristics. Further, the remote locations of many islands affects their participation in the global economy and limits their competitiveness.

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) , the UN agency coordinating the international celebration, invites you to 'raise your voice, not the sea level'. Read more
