Awareness and Capacity Building Workshops for Media on Climate Change and Development in Indian Himalayan Region

The Climate Change and Development Division of the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) is lending its support to a project of the Centre for Environment Education Himalaya (CEE Himalaya) and The Third Pole, a New Delhi-based media NGO, to conduct four workshops for building journalists’ understanding of climate change and development issues. Each workshop will be three days long and have space for about 30 media participants, who work in print, electronic, radio, community radio, activist outlets in the vicinity of the workshop venues.

These workshops aim to raise the awareness of reporters and better their preparation to cover climate change and development issues. This effort is expected to help ‘climate proof’ development initiatives already underway and those to be taken up in future.

The first workshop will take place in Shimla, the capital city of the state of Himachal Pradesh in Western Himalaya. The following three workshops will be held in Leh, Gangtok and Kohima at the end of 2014 and in 2015, respectively.
