Stakeholder Conference on the EU Strategy for the Alpine Region

Milan, Italy
From: 01.12.2014 to: 02.12.2014

This international conference, known as EUSALP, will mark the conclusion of the extensive stakeholder consultation on the macro-regional strategy. The Conference will promote discussion of the challenges that can be tackled and support the preparation of the future Communication and Action Plan of the Strategy, which the Commission is due to present in June 2015. The conference will also contribute to raising the awareness of the wider public of preparations for the Strategy.

The event, organized by the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Commission and Lombardy Region, will take place in Milan, Italy. The Foreign Ministers of the countries involved and the presidents of the regions of the Alpine area are invited. The programme includes plenary sessions and workshops devoted to the three pillars of the Strategy – fostering growth, promoting connectivity and ensuring environmental sustainability.

An Alpine macro-regional strategy is intended to address common challenges and contribute to the achievement of economic, social and territorial cohesion. It is expected to improve cross-border cooperation in the Alpine States and help identify common goals and implement them more effectively.

The Strategy concerns seven countries, of which five EU Member States (Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia) and two non-EU countries (Liechtenstein and Switzerland), and 48 Regions.
