Italian Society for Mountain Medicine Training Course

In cooperation with the Foundation for Mountain Safety, the Italian Society for Mountain Medicine (SIMEM) will be offering a comprehensive course on theoretical and practical mountain medicine.  The course is geared toward doctors and paramedics, but is open to registration for the general public.

This course is intended to provide information on treatment of diseases related to high mountain regions such as: hypoxia, hypothermia, frostbite, and injuries due to avalanches.  Course sessions will be held on the following topics: adapting to mountain environments; health complications from living at high altitude; hypothermia and frostbite; diet and exercise; chronic illnesses and mountains; “telemedicine” and long-distance consultations; and management of pharmacy staff.  There will also be practical sessions on the topics of feeding, training, and preparing local peoples, including the use and application of hyperbaric tanks.
