The supply of Andean grains

Milan, Italy
From: 07.09.2015 to: 07.09.2015

The Italian Cooperation at EXPO, in cooperation with Oxfam, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), is organizing a conference at EXPO, taking place from 10:30 to 14:00 in the Auditorium, Cascina Triulza.

Andean grain provides food security to millions of peoples in Latin America and especially in Andean countries and in Mexico. In addition, its nutritional high quality has incremented the demand for this commodity, also at international level. This represents a good opportunity to strengthen food security worldwide.

The seminar is composed by various speeches, the viewing of a video and a discussion on the production of Andean grains such as quinoa, amaranth and others. Speakers include Sara Manuelli of the Mountain Partnership Secretariat who will talk about the promotion of traditional and high-quality produce as a means to improve the development of mountain areas. The objective of the event is to reflect upon Andean grains – its risks and opportunities brought by the increasing demand – and to spread the knowledge of their traditional role.
