VIII International Conference “Science, Education, Culture and Advocacy Activities - Basis for Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories”

IISTC "Mountains" initiates regular international conferences on the problems and prospects of sustainable development of mountain territories. This time the Conference will focus on the updates and findings of possible solutions to the challenges of mountain territories in the following fields: Science, Education, Culture and Advocacy activities.

The VIII International Conference is held under the auspices of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and organized by the Government of North Ossetia-Alania, with the support of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation.

The conference is traditionally conducted at the leading Technological University in the North Caucasus – North Caucasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (State Technological University).

Among the honourable speakers are:  Khan Quanly – Director of the Division of Ecology and Earth Sciences UNESCO, Aleksey Gunya, the Lead Researcher of the Institute of Geography, Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Mountain Group MAB-6. Lev Puchkov, Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Center for Strategic Studies "Mining Institute" NUST MISA as well as other leading scientists of states with mountainous territories.

The Conference covers the following areas:

I. The role of local governments in implementation of programmes and projects for sustainable development

II. Main achievements, difficulties and scientific challenges in the field of sustainable development of mountain territories

III. Education and its role in sustainable development of mountain territories

IV. Main problems, tasks and contribution of agroindustrial complex in the development of mountain territories

V. Significance of culture and cultural processes in sustainable development of mountain territories

VI. Demography, social and biomedical problems of mountain territories

VII. Information and communication technologies, and outreach activities for sustainable development of mountain territories

VIII. Development problems of tourism and recreation potential of mountain territories

IX. Problems of protection and rational use of flora and fauna resources.

X. Protected areas and biodiversity conservation, environmental education and promotion of the Regular IV International seminar

The programme of the conference will include: plenary meeting, work of sessions and round tables; exhibition of special literature and regulatory documents; exhibition of examples of national craft and art; social programme: sightseeing over the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.
