The Role of Women in Mountain Regions

Under the Austrian presidency of the Alpine Convention, in partner with the International Commission for the Protection of the Alps (CIPRA) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), an international conference entitled “The Role of Women in Mountain Regions” will take place in Alpbach, Tyrol on 18-19 April 2017. Sustainable development is vital for mountain regions. Often it is the women who are particularly aware of the changes occurring in their environment and engage with initiatives to confront these changes. The aim of the conference is to make a political statement about women and their situation in the mountain areas, about the importance of their specific knowledge and expertise and about their indispensable contributions to people’s lives, their co-existence and survival. It is also intended to demonstrate the similarities and differences between mountain regions.

The results of the conference will be included in a document that should, as far as possible, influence the discussions in other institutions and on other regional, European and possibly global platforms.

Childcare services will be offered on both conference days. The conference will be held in German and English. The deadline to register is 7 April 2017.
