Expo 2023 Doha: Agrobiodiversity and innovation workshop

Italian Pavilion, Expo 2023 Doha, Qatar
From: 22.11.2023 to: 22.11.2023

As part of the GROW - Agrobiodiversity in a Changing Climate course, this workshop, hosted at the Italian Pavilion in Expo 2023 Doha, will showcase innovative initiatives and technology applications focused on agrobiodiversity as potential solutions for addressing food insecurity. It will explore the potential of leveraging artificial intelligence to optimize farming in densely populated areas and regions facing soil scarcity. Moreover, a case study will be presented, highlighting an initiative with the capacity to be scaled up in regions and ecosystems where urban agriculture and innovation are key to alleviating food shortages. Urban agriculture in densely populated areas with limited agricultural land offers an opportunity to reduce environmental pressure while providing additional societal benefits such as stress reduction and social cohesion.

The workshop will be live-streamed to an online audience of GROW 2023 - Agrobiodiversity in a Changing Climate.

Session Aims

  • Highlight the potential of agrobiodiversity for climate change adaptation and mitigation
  • Discuss the role of artificial intelligence in promoting sustainable food systems based on agrobiodiversity
  • Reflect on the significance of organic agriculture for the future of food production
  • Present Plantiverse, an automation model that supports sustainable agriculture practices
