IPROMO 2016 Summer School: Managing mountain resources and diversities - the role of protected areas

The ninth International Programme on Research and Training on Sustainable Management of Mountain Areas (IPROMO), organized by the Mountain Partnership Secretariat and the University of Turin, will focus on “Managing mountain resources and diversities: the role of protected areas”. It will focus on several aspects that contribute to the productive management of mountain protected areas, ranging from sustainable environment conservation to governance rights, income generation and food security.

There are a number of planned field excursions to explore different examples of mountain resource management in protected areas, soil and geology valorization. The interrelations between climate change and other global challenges and mountain protected areas will be discussed during the course and working groups will be formed, allowing participants to share their knowledge and build a network of experts. Lectures will be led by experts from the UN system, universities, international organizations and NGOs.

About 30 professionals will be admitted to the course and preference will be given to participants coming from countries and organizations which are members of the Mountain Partnership.
