Evaluation workshop for project "Enhancing community resilience to climate change in mountain watersheds"

FAO Headquarters, Rome
From: 02.07.2024 to: 04.07.2024

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) project "Enhancing Community Resilience to Climate Change in Mountain Watersheds" (GCP/GLO/042/JPN), funded by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and supported by the Mountain Partnership Secretariat, aims to strengthen the capacities of institutions and communities in forest-based disaster risk reduction within mountain watersheds. Additionally, the project focuses on increasing the resilience of local populations through sustainable agricultural value chains, thereby improving livelihoods.

As the project nears its completion in September 2024, it is essential to conduct a comprehensive end-term evaluation to assess the project's performance, impacts, challenges, and lessons learned. This evaluation will also aid in planning the effective closure of project activities.

The purpose of this workshop is to reflect, in collaboration with implementing partners and participants, on the project implementation process and results at both the country and global levels.

The workshop also aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences among project stakeholders, garnering insights for the improvement of future projects. Moreover, the workshop intends to celebrate the achievements and impacts of the project on its beneficiaries and the environment.

Scheduled to be held in Rome from 2-5 July 2024, the workshop will consist of two main sessions: a high-level session and a technical session.

The high-level session, taking place on 2 July 2024, from 16:00-17:00 (CEST), will gather key stakeholders from FAO, the Governments of Japan, Peru, and the Philippines, and other partner organizations. This session will provide a platform for sharing perspectives and experiences regarding project implementation and outcomes. It will also offer an opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions and achievements of all parties involved in the project.

The technical session will delve into a detailed review of the project life cycle, evaluating the results and impacts using various tools and methods. This session will identify best practices and recommendations for future projects focused on forest management and adaptation in mountain watersheds. Additionally, the technical session will plan for the seamless closure of project activities and the transfer of organizational knowledge to all stakeholders to ensure sustained value delivery.
