Narrative label: The organic wildflower honey comes from the highlands and lowlands of Mongolia’s Selenge province. Here, beekeepers carefully place their hives in remote, uncontaminated fields so their bees can forage on the local flora. The diversity of the landscape makes this honey especially rich in minerals and micronutrients, and therefore a great health supplement. It is consumed as an alternative to sugar and is well-known for its immune-boosting properties.

Tradition
The Selenge province of Mongolia has been pioneering bee farming in the country since 1959. The province is particularly well-suited for beekeeping, having many varieties of flowers that bloom there. The beekeepers themselves follow the bees as they explore the diverse flora. Traditionally, younger generations are taught about farming and honey harvesting techniques, emphasizing the beekeeper’s role as herbalist, botanist, naturalist and zoologist.

Producer
Forty smallholders working with three cooperatives – “Kharaagiin Bayan Urs”, “Munkhtsovdon” and “Organic Honey” – collect this special honey. The cooperatives’ members support each other every step of the way, from harvesting the honey together from their beehives, to processing and packaging it to share production costs and ensure a high quality. The honey meets both Participatory Guarantee System government standards as well as those of the Mongolian Bee Farmers Society.

Territory
This honey comes from the districts of Shaamar, Sukhbaatar and Bayangol of the forest-steppe Selenge province in northern Mongolia, where it is produced at more than 1 500 metres above sea level.

Processing
This honey is 100 percent pure, with no additives or preservatives. The honey is harvested in the early morning and then processed and packaged in a small local workshop.
