Alpine Convention welcomes new secretary general02.08.2013The Alpine Convention has welcomed a new secretary general, Markus Reiterer, who took up his new role at the start of July. The 45-year-old lawyer and diplomat is the first Austrian secretary general in the 21-year history of the Convention. "I am pleased to begin my work in this function and take on the multiple challenges that we will face in the next years," Reiterer said. "As Permanent Secretariat, we have a role to play in supporting the implementation of the Protocols by the States and maintaining the prominent international role of the Alpine Convention in the sustainable development of the alpine region." On his first day, Reiterer thanked the outgoing Secretary General Marco Onida for his outstanding work and achievements during his tenure. |
