Message from the MPS on earthquake in Nepal
27.04.2015
This shock which has hit Nepal and neighbouring countries – so close to my heart, having lived in Kathmandu with my family in the past – makes me very sad. I send my condolences to all the families in the Himalayas who have lost lives and property. The devastation is extensive.
Our sympathy and solidarity go to the population of Nepal and affected areas. The MP has worked closely with the Government of Nepal, who is now requesting international assistance. An immediate response is forthcoming from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), where the Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS) is hosted, through the Special Fund for Emergency and Rehabilitation Activities (SFERA) for needs assessment, coordination and urgent supplies.
If you are able to help, here is a list of groups soliciting donations to support their efforts in Nepal http://www.nytimes.com/live/earthquake-katmandu-nepal-updates/how-to-help-the-relief-effort-in-nepal/
For those who want to donate directly, please see the attached information regarding Nepal Government bank accounts issued by Nepal Embassy Germany http://nepalembassy-germany.com/pdfs/massive_earthquake.pdf
On behalf of the MPS and partners, I wish to extend our thoughts and condolences to everyone affected by the devastating earthquake.
