The Mountain Partnership: Looking to the future

02.10.2012

The Mountain Partnership Task Force met in Rome in October at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss the future of the alliance. Around 25 representatives from governments, intergovernmental organizations and civil society spent three days discussing the nature of sustainable mountain development and the role that the Mountain Partnership can play to promote the mountain agenda.

In particular, the Task Force discussed the Partnership’s mission, goals and functions, and worked on the Governance and Strategy draft papers. The need to improve the effectiveness of the Partnership through new membership criteria’s was also discussed.

“The objective to revitalize the Mountain Partnership was achieved,” says Thomas Hofer. “I appreciate the active engagement and the lively discussion of all of those present. The MPS is fully committed to serve the new expectations and to work together towards a new Mountain Partnership.” The Members agreed to work further on the draft documents and to have a Global Meeting to be held in first half of 2013.

A high level summary of the discussion will be available shortly online. Meanwhile find here the presentations of the Task Force.
