Enter the Mountain Future Award 2024

11.09.2024

From food insecurity, climate change impact and biodiversity loss, to gender inequalities, poverty, outmigration and the loss of traditional knowledge, mountain areas face significant challenges today. However, with challenges come opportunities, and we believe in the power of innovative solutions to create a sustainable tomorrow.

To celebrate International Mountain Day (IMD) 2024, the Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS) at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) invites institutions and individuals over 18 to submit proposals for transformative projects that contribute to a sustainable and better future for mountains.

This year’s IMD theme, “Mountain solutions for a sustainable future – innovation, adaptation, and youth”, emphasizes the critical role of innovation, climate adaptation and youth engagement in driving sustainable solutions for mountain communities.

Submissions should showcase technological, social, policy or institutional innovations, promote climate adaptation, and highlight the active participation of youth in creating a sustainable future for mountain areas.

Three winners will be selected by a panel of mountain experts from FAO and the Mountain Partnership, and will receive seed funding of USD 5 000 and project incubation assistance from the MPS. The Mountain Future Award ceremony will take place during the International Mountain Day event in December 2024.

The deadline for entries is 30 October 2024.

IMD 2024 is as a platform for exchanging knowledge, showcasing best practices and mobilizing collective action. By embracing innovation, adaptation, youth empowerment, and collaborative approaches, we can pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient future for mountain communities and ecosystems.
