KIRDARC offers emergency support in Nepal

The 25-member Emergency Response Team of Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC) is engaged in emergency relief support including in Nepal, following the 25 April 2015 earthquake, in the areas of: coordination, fundraising, logistics and finance, field support and Youth Alliance for Disaster and Climate Resilience (YADC) and Volunteers.
KIRDARC Nepal has experience working in emergency relief support. KIRDARC provided emergency support to flood victims of Kalikot district on 2013. Similarly it also supported to flood affected people of Surkhet district during 2014.
Major highlights
- KIRDARC is working on Sindhupalchowk and Kavrepalanchowk districts
- KIRDARC reached about 4008 HHS with 5 Village Development Committees ( Nayagaun Deupur, Baluwapati & Gairibisauna of Kavre and Nawalpur and Irkhu of Sindhupalchowk district )
- KIRDARC emergency team response team is mobilized for emergency relief support distribution.
- Needs assessment is undergoing in the Lalitpur and Rasuwa districts.
Situation overview
The Sindhupalchowk district lies in the 35 km east of Kathmandu, where more than 90 percent of the households have been damaged, 3 057 people have died, 860 were injured and 44 310 houses were destroyed. The VDC secretaries of Sindupalchowk were seeking shelter for the people during KIRDARC team visit to Chautara, the headquarter of Sindupalchowk. Similarly in Karvepalanchowk district, 25 km east of Kathmandu was severely affected. Government official reported that 140 had been killed, and more than 600 injured were being treated in its hospitals. More than 30 000 houses have been fully destroyed. Thousands of people are living in open spaces in need of shelter and water.
