14.10.2024

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat participated in the 2nd World Network of Mountain Biosphere Reserves (WNMBR) meeting held from 24 to 27 September in the Ordino Biosphere Reserve, Andorra. The meeting brought together 37 participants from 22 countries, representing various organizations and Mountain Biosphere Reserves (MBRs). The opening session was attended by Guillem Casal, Andorra’s Minister of Environment and Agriculture, and various local authorities.

Throughout the four-day meeting, participants explored various topics, including the network's internal organization, participation in major international events, membership expansion and ongoing or planned collaborative initiatives.

The key outcome was a roadmap outlining strategic priorities and ongoing projects. Emphasis was also placed on the need to invigorate the network, promoting greater participation from the reserves and fostering new forms of exchange and collaboration.

The Mountain Partnership reinforced its commitment to advancing the international mountain agenda by participating in key discussions focused on integrating mountains and their challenges into the upcoming ten-year Plan of Action and strategy of UNESCO’s MaB Programme, which will be adopted at the fifth World Congress of Biosphere Reserves in 2025 in Hangzhou, China.
