Submission for UN report on mountains

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS) is currently compiling summaries of the most important results of mountain development activities since July 2016 for the United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) Report on Sustainable Mountain Development.

Now requested every three years, the MPS and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, in collaboration with governments, other UN agencies and non-government organizations (NGOs), will prepare the information for the United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) Report on Sustainable Mountain Development. The report is due to be presented in September under the sustainable development agenda item at the 74st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The report forms the basis for a resolution that is adopted by the General Assembly.

The report describes the status and progress made in promoting sustainable mountain development at the national and international levels. Focusing on various themes, it provides an overall analysis of the challenges and includes recommendations on how to more effectively achieve sustainable development in mountain regions. The Report has been compiled since 2001 by FAO as task manager for chapter 13 of Agenda 21.

This UNSG report is a significant opportunity to raise awareness of sustainable mountain development activities at global and local level as well as an opportunity to propose recommendations for the way forward. Submissions should not be exceed 200 words, pertain to the 2016-2019 reporting period and be sent to [email protected]
