 $9.8 million investment in Eastern Afromontane Hotspot08.03.2013The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) has launched a $9.8 million five-year conservation strategy for the Eastern Afromontane biodiversity hotspot, which comprises mountainous areas stretching from Saudi Arabia to Mozambique. The hotspot contains more than 10,000 species, around one third of which are endemic. It also provides crucial ecosystem services, particularly in terms of watersheds and support to agriculture and ultimately food security. Yemen’s Ministry of Environment and the Saudi Wildlife Authority helped guide the investment strategy. CEPF funds nongovernmental efforts to conserve the world’s most biodiverse and threatened ecosystems.
