25.03.2013

Experts from Asian mountains committed themselves to working together for social and ecological resilience to climate change at the Regional Workshop on Climate Change Impacts in Asian Mountains in Kathmandu, Nepal, 13-15 March.

Senior government officials and experts from ten countries met for the workshop to promote collaboration on science, education, culture, and communication to lessen the impact of climate change on Asia’s mountain countries.

“We have to better harness the potential of interdisciplinary strategies to mitigate the impact of climate change on mountains”, said Axel Plathe, Head of the UNESCO office in Kathmandu.

The workshop was organized by UNESCO and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

The event was one of three regional workshops on climate change impacts on mountain ecosystems being held by UNESCO to help shape the formulation of global strategies to strengthen policies on mountain ecosystems.
