Passing of an advocate for mountains

Dr Jane Pratt, a staunch advocate for mountain communities and environments, passed away on 12 August 2013 at home in Virginia, USA.

Pratt’s 35-year career in the field of sustainable development and environmental stewardship included eight years as the president and CEO of The Mountain Institute (TMI), an international NGO dedicated to the conservation of mountain ecosystems and sustainable development for mountain people. Under Pratt’s leadership, TMI founded The Mountain Forum, a global network of individuals and organizations concerned with the well being of mountain people, their environments and cultures.
