03.09.2013

This year 80 representatives attended the Central Asian Mountain Program (CAMP) Forum, the topic of which was Energy - Efficiency - Future: Access and innovation for mountain communities. Held on 27-29 August 2013 in a remote mountain village, Kalmak Ashu, in Kyrgyzstan, participants came from France, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Switzerland and Tajikistan.

In addition to the plenary sessions, the Forum featured four thematic sections: Innovative energy-saving technologies, Energy efficiency and natural resource management, Social capital and energy management in communities and Policy and financing mechanisms of energetic sector.

During the forum different experiences and practices on energy efficiency technologies were presented, and discussions on related issues were held. As a side event, an exhibition was organized where participants demonstrated materials and technologies. Another side event was a master class, conducted by Thierry Barush, who demonstrated the energy efficient technologies based on the use of recycled materials available locally.

CAMP Forum provides a platform for interaction among all stakeholders, including the mountain communities, governments, the business sector, civil society, academia, and international and regional institutions. This multi-level, multi-disciplinary approach encourages joint training, experience exchanges and discussions on the challenges and opportunities of supply and consumption of energy in the mountain communities of Central Asia.
