Mountain farming publication launched on International Mountain Day

11.12.2013

To mark the UN International Mountain Day, a publication called ‘Mountain Farming is Family Farming’ has been launched today.

The publication is a contribution from mountain areas to the International Year of Family Farming 2014.  Featuring 25 case studies from across the world, it gives an overview of the global changes affecting mountain farming and the strategies that mountain communities have developed to cope. ‘Mountain Farming is Family Farming’ also presents a series of lessons and recommendations for policy makers, development experts and academics who work to support mountain farmers and to protect mountains.

The book was published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, the Centre for Development and Environment of the University of Bern and the Centre for Development Research of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. It was supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Read more Download
