Reducing mountain land degradation in Uzbekistan

The training workshop “Assistance in the reduction of land degradation in mountains territories” for farmers, experts, representatives of local and municipal authorities took place in the Akhangaran area of Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region on 19 April 2014. The date of the event was chosen to coincide with Earth Day.  
The training was organized by Ecoforum, an association of non-governmental organizations in Uzbekistan, with the assistance of the Social Fund for support of non-governmental, non-commercial organizations and other civic institutes under Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan as the final stage of the project, “Reduction assistance of land degradation in mountains territories of Akhangaran area, Tashkent region”. Participants were given educational and visual materials including the brochure, “Types of degradation of mountain slopes of Akhangaran area, Tashkent region”, which was published to reflect the results of the project.

Project experts gave presentations and showed films on the main environmental problems in the country and region, provided the results of a survey on the state of pastures, mountain slopes and potential for reduction of land degradation in mountain territories.

Recommendations to reduce mountain slope degradation were made for governmental and municipal authorities and for municipal decision-makers, in line with the outcome of the training session and project.
